Dark decks are not just for Halloween / Samhain. They can be used all year long for introspective readings, especially when we are looking at shadow aspects (in the Jungian sense) of the self.
I have currently six dark decks vying for my attention, wanting me to read with them at Halloween, so I thought I would hold an audition and see which one to go with. They are all lovely in their own right and anyone I read for gets to choose… but only one deck can be my Samhain deck and the deck I use for a year ahead overview for myself.
The chosen deck will be doubled up with the Witches Tarot for an in-depth view of the themes of the 12 Zodiac Houses, each representing an area of my life. I like to lay them out in the Zodiac circle pattern:
Aries is the first house and the cards are laid out with the following positional meanings:
Bohemian Gothic Tarot 2nd Edition
The Vampire Tarot (cropped)
My audition questions for each of the decks are:
‘What gives you the edge?’ and ‘How keen are you to work with me on Halloween?’
My interpretations are based more on the feeling I get from the images here than on traditional card meanings.
Bohemian Gothic Tarot – 7 of Pentacles and 10 of Pentacles
Patience gives me the edge. I’m not really bothered about working with you for this particular holiday. I can spooky and all that but I’m not really a party trick kinda deck.
Dark Fairytale Tarot – King of Cups and Ace of Swords
The fact that I’m a sexy mothefucker gives me the edge, bitch. Pick me or I’ll cut you!
Ghost Tarot – 4 of Pentacles and 4 of Wands
I don’t need to justify why I have the edge – I’m a frickin’ ghost and I RULE Halloween. Yeah, I’ll party wiv ya!
Tarot of Vampyres – Ace of Skulls and Daughter of Grails
I make Death look good and I’m very keen to unleash your dark fantasies.
Vampire Tarot – 9 of Holy Water and 7 of Garlic Flowers
I give such clear readings that you won’t fall off the ledge even when you’re very very drunk. But you’ll have to pick someone else. I’m snoozing in my coffin on Samhain. I’m the real deal and can’t be bothered with the Hallmark Holiday they call ‘Halloween.’ Hrmph
Zombie Tarot – 7 of Cups and The Hierphant
I am so deliriously hilarious, darling! We totally need to put the world to rights together!
Soooooo… Which deck comes out on top? Vote below and get entered into the Seer Pathways Halloween contest. The lucky winner (chosen randomly) gets a One Question in-depth Tarot reading with yours truly and will be announced in the Halloween weekend edition of my newsletter (sign up HERE).
